US Gold Sticker.gif (11163 bytes) "OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CANADA", a  documentary travel series that tells stories of the Canadian experience in the outdoors,  has won 60 international television festival awards and honours in the past year and a half, for 15 different episodes (58% of its programs), including:

6 First/GOLDS, 12 Second/SILVERS, 24Third/BRONZES, 3 AWARDS OF MERIT, 7 FINALISTS, and 5 SELECTIONS FOR SHOW.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CANADA was one of ten television series selected for development funding by a committee from Life Network and the Canadian Independent Film & Video Fund, out of 251 proposals sent in for consideration from production companies across Canada. Of those ten, OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CANADA was one of the few subsequently selected for production.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CANADA was described by the Toronto Star's Henry Mietkiewicz as "programs on topics that neatly blend travel, history, nature, and human interest", and featuring "crisp cinematography and pinpoint editing". We sincerely thank the Canada Television & Cable Production Fund for making this unabashedly Canadian series possible. The series has received terrific ratings and fantastic  response from viewers (see Viewer Response) across Canada. It aired on Life Network.

We are proud that shows made for a cable channel series, and entirely shot and produced in Canada, have won such an unprecedented number of medals for quality, in international competition with the best television programs from around the world.

Organizers told us they were astonished when our programs took both first and second place in the competition, the first time that a producer has managed this feat in the 40 year history of the festival.
We are proud to say it was done by Canadians, doing "hard-core Canadian Heritage programming".

As the winning entries, our programs were shown at the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference in Orlando, FL, at the Outdoor Writers Association of America's Conference in Redding, CA, and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh, PA.

The Outdoor Writers Association of America, Inc. has its headquarters in Chicago, IL."

"GOLDI PROD'S PLACES TWO FINALISTS, - CBC WITNESS ONE,
IN PRESTIGIOUS COMPETITION CATEGORY "

nykit.gif (28144 bytes) "Congratulations Finalist! In a record-breaking year of entries we salute you for an outstanding achievement in the international competition for television, film, and video communication. Your work has surpassed thousands, earning featured billing in the New York Festivals awards competition, recognizing the world's best work. We know the pressures and the intense level of competition that exists in our industry.  We honour not only your accomplishments, but your steadfast adherence to a standard of excellence, creativity, and   integrity."
(Gerald M. Goldberg, President, The New York Festivals)
  • FINALIST AWARD  for
"HIGHLAND HEAVIES" (The Fergus Highland Games, ON)
  • FINALIST AWARD  for
"GO FLY A KITE" (The Kite Festival at Verdun, PQ)

At the New York Festivals Television Programming Awards, Goldi Productions Ltd. was singled out for a unique honour - our series OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CANADA was the only independently - produced Canadian television series to be awarded two Finalist nominations in an international competition.

A Finalist Award at the NY Festivals - where the best work is sent annually by the leading television producers and broadcasters from around the world (including A&E, discovery USA, the History Channel USA, CNN, CBC, CTV, the Learning Channel etc.) - is a professional honour much sought after, but rarely achieved. At the NY festival awards, Finalist nominations were awarded to only 3 Canadian independent documentary producers, for programs from a series they produced for Canadian television. At a time of unprecedented television series productions in Canada, with literally hundreds of documentary streams being produced (Atlantis Broadcasting alone claims to have commissioned 83 original new Canadian series) and more producers submitting their work to television festivals than ever before, this recognition is no small achievement. (CBC network documentary series that also received a Finalist Award, were the Nature of Things, Venture, Undercurrents, Marketplace, and the Health Show.)

We feel doubly-honoured to be among the few selected, because the international jury at the NY Festivals awarded us Finalist nominations for two different shows from our series OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CANADA - a remarkable achievement for any television strand.

We note with interest, that the only other Canadian documentary series producer - public or private - that achieved this status, was the CBC's flagship documentary series "Witness," which also won two Finalist Awards. American producers that received double Finalists status were A&E's "Biography" and "Investigative Reports". We are pleased that our work has been so favourable compared to broadcast programs produced with both budgets and production staffs many times the size of ours.

We are honoured that our work, showcasing Canadians and Canadian stories, entirely shot in Canada, by Canadians, was selected as equal in creativity, quality, and interest, and "among the world's best work" by an international jury, even though our programs were produced with small budgets and shot locally.

"Highland Heavies", a look at Highland Games Canadian-style, was entirely shot in Fergus Ontario. Our second Finalist, "Go Fly a Kite," a modern look at an ancient pastime, was shot in Kortright, Ontario, and Verdun, Quebec.
